Dear list,
a great big thank you to all of you who answered so
promptly to my request. Here is a summary of the
answers concerning how to convert white feet into
black feet.
Myriam,
Soak them in spirit based leather dye. We have Raven
Oil here in
Australia. Richard Ziegeler (P&O)
Hello Myriam,
I am glad to read your below mentioned message .The
name of material used for prosthetic foot should be
identifiedfirst, of course it can then be treated with
certain dyes to give appropriateshade, It may require
re-treatment after certain period of time. This
process
isextremely simple and very cost effective.

Myriam,
A technique that works well for Kingsley brand SACH
feet is to paint on
athinned mixture of resin pigment. Usually thinning
the pigment with
acetoneis sufficient. You'll need to allow 2-3 days
for full drying. This
technique is reasonably robust & durable if you apply
three or four
goodcoats then allow to dry.
I wouldn't attempt this technique with any other brand
foot as the
greasyplastics used today in most other brands are
difficult to bond.
Sanding thesurface may help however. You never know
until you try, so best of luck.

Myriam,
The most durable coating (Paint) is Master cement that
has been thinned with Masters thinner to a thin
consistancy. Any pigment can be added as desired. You
want to apply several thin coats which will dry in
several hours. Powder the finish to take away the
tacky finish. This technique has worked very well for
me. It is much better than cover coat or spray finish.
Good Luck,

Most of the coatings available to paint prosthetic
feet areconsidered hazardous material for shipping.
Most spray paints will crack very early. You might try
roughing the surface and rubbing a dry negroid pigment
to darken the foot.Other coatings and paints will
crack very soon especially in hot or humid conditions.

good morning, otto bock has a foam glue and if you add
the color of pigment that you want
and some acetone to thin it down, then paint the foot
with 3-4 light coats when dry wipe down with small
amount of acetone.

Myriam,
I've used negroid mannequin spray paint with good
success. Clean foot first with acetone or similar
solvent, and spray one or two coats.
Joel Kempfer CP
Kingsley makes a paint especially for painting feet
called Cover Coat that is flexible and comes in a
Negroid color. Their number is 800-854-3497.

Depending on the make of foot, you can try to soak
them in water with dark brown food coloring. This has
been successful with some of the foot shells.
