Title:
Ertl Procedure / Tibiafibular Synostosis
Text:
I am consulting preoperatively with a 42 y.o. male who was burned over 98% of
his body 14 years ago. He made an amazing recovery but in October of 1999 a
tumor was removed from his right ankle. The cancer has returned and a
trans-tibial amputation has been recommended for February 16. The surgeons
have asked for advice and I suggested that a surgical bone bridge procedure
be considered. I know there are different techniques for this procedure.
Please advise on your experience with this surgery and recovery time. I
tried contacting Dr. Ertl in Chicago and searched Medline, without success,
for more information. I have some old written literature on the procedure
but it is not very detailed. Does anyone have more information they can pass
along. I need this b/4 Feb 11.
Thank you.
