Dear Kimberley & Marco Barreda,
I am sorry that you have had some seriously deficient care by whomever was
treating you. I AM a prosthetist, and am very shocked that you could even
think about catagorizing every prosthestist as insincere, inpassionate,
insensitive people. I for one am none of these things. I entered this field
to help, and not harm my patients. I entered this field because I wanted to
help give someone the ability to walk. I entered this field to make a
difference in someone's life. And I believe, based on my patients reactions,
have done all of these things.
I am not a doctor, but I do treat. I have patients that need counseling. I
have patients that need support. I have patients that just need friends. I
am not saying that I trained to do all these things, but they have become
part of my job and my duty to my patients to just help.
I have tried to do what is right, and provide the best care that I know how,
and I find it hurtful that you, for some reason, think that all prosthetist
fall into your poor view of people. This is an art not a science. Everyone
is different and you should not judge everyone based on your opinon of a few.
I would hope that in the age of the new Millennium, where the world can
converse, exchange ideas, learn, and benefit from the ideas of others, that
you would at least know that people come in all different races, abilities,
and personalities.
We all should learn from you that it is helping no one if we are so quick to
judge and think so narrow mindedly.
Finally, this list is not a place to attack, but to learn from those who are
willing to help. I hope you could learn to do this.
