I hope you will permit what may seem as a stupid and obvious question. After making foot
orthotics for about 10 years, I am studying for my certification papers. One item that
puzzles me is casting of feet to make orthotics. I have read a number of texts recommended
about this topic and one crucial piece evades me!
The person puts their foot in foam or their foot is cast in plaster. An orthotic is made
from a positive. Suppose a person come in with pes valgoplanus. They need a medial wedge at
the heel and some degree of arch support. What this mould is going to give them is a lateral
heel wedge and no arch support. What am I missing? If you have insights in this situation,
please feel free to contact me privately.
Thank you for your help.
