I have followed the consolidation discussion over these past several months
with interest and amusement. It is certainly interesting to read the
various comments of practitioners interested in the future of our
profession. To this point I have not participated but read and learned,
trying as you are to make up my mind on the issues before us. I was
saddened today when I read Mr. Bader's post questioning the integrity and
character of our national leaders. He certainly brought the discussion to a
new low.
I have been most fortunate to have been associated with most of the people
on th AAOP Board of Directors. Every one of them is a dedicated
professional giving of their time to try and keep their profession viable
into the next century. There is not a finer gentleman in our field than
David J. and I am appalled at Mr. Bader's insinuation of collusion. I have
recently been priviledged to attend the ABC strategic planning meeting. I
found another group of outstanding individuals wrestling with the problems
associated with the future of our profession. They have taken valuable time
away from their practices to help provide direction for P&O. Before Mr.
Toenges criticizes this gang I suggest he get to know them a little
better. I spoke with Bill Schumann and Ronnie Snell recently while at the
Interbor meeting. Both men of high character and many, many years of
dedication to our field. Their Presidencies have been dominated by the
conslidation debate and study. Do you think they planned it that way?The
AOPA Board is filled with dedicated people who have spent years bringing
our field to a higher level. Of course there are differences in
philosophies and thinking. Of course problems are often approached from
different directions. But to call into question the character of the
leaders we are fortunate enough to have working for us at this important
time in our profession can only be out of ignorance.
Yes I have made up my mind on the consolidation issue. No, I will not share
it here. Each must read the information and make up their minds on their
own. Yes this is an important issue but not the end of the world (or our
profession). The paranoia must stop. The feeling that some one or some
group is out to get the Academy has been around for as long as the Academy
has existed. The Academy has continued to grow and continues to represent
the practitioner. For those of you who continue to preach this
paranoia--get over it. For those of you who question the integrity of the
members of the boards representing you--get educated on the issues. Call
and talk to these people, they may not be the bad guys you think they are.
By the way, I do believe that our attorney just read about the law that
changed during the month of July when he read a review on the 23rd of the
same month. Actually I am suprised we found out that soon. You know, I have
been accused of being naiive but I believe that we are also fortunate to
have attorneys with integrity.
