Responses: arm socks for toddlers
Text:
Thanks to all for your responses. I am certainly armed with information and
alternatives I wasn't aware of or hadn't considered before. Several people
asked: how small? Length is 5, circumferences are 4 distally and 5 1/2
proximally. He is a very small two year old congenital amputee with two or
three remnant carpal bones and some pseudo wrist motion. We are hoping to
make him a self suspending prosthesis.
Thanks again,
Eddie
Soft n cuddly socks from Knit Rite size 0 should work. I've used them for a
7 year old symes patient.
Talk to Greg Pruitt @ Royal Knit. I don't have their number handy at the
moment but I;m sure you can find them in the AOPA Yearbook.
We buy a different assortment of socks at Sears in the infant and toddler
department. They have tube style and nylon. The nylon have a heel but it
fits over the elbow nicely. The smallest Soft & Cuddly is fairly small also.
why don't you try knit-rite or comfort socks that's what we use here for our
small ones. thanks
How about a tiny soft sock by Knit Rite?
We carry a line of Prosthetic Socks that is made from coolmax (synthetic)
and sizes are available for children the smallest is a 4-6 length, 4-5
top/ 3-3.5 toe in 3,5 and 6 plies. If you would like more info please
contact me.

I have forwarded your message to Jim smith sales as they supply arm socks to
Shrines they may have what you need
K Mart or Wal Mart.
You might try the stretch spacer socks from Knit Rite. They do have a seam
at the end though. These have elastic in them and conform to the limb very
well.
Eddie...... I have used a childs regular foot sock in this situation and
they work very well. Hope this is of some help!!
If you can provide measurements or dimensions, and ply weight, we should
either have it on hand or can make it.

Sometimes you need to be creative. I would suggest looking at infant size
socks for a foot. Long enough to fit the residual limb below the heel section
of the sock. Sew and trim the sock below the heel section. Obviously the sock
needs to be long enough to fold over the trim line of your socket. Have the
family bring in socks they already have. But you may need to buy new socks.
You may be surprised how easy it works. Let me know if it helps, it has
worked for me.
