Since there has been recent dialoge on the O&P list serves re: how to contribute and set up non profit amputee organizations , I thought I would provide a viable alternative to setting up your own as a mechanism to accepting or providing financial and component contributions.

Our function is to assist the needs of amputees worldwide. The Barr Foundation,a non profit 501 C (3) organization since 1978.
We will work with all legitimate established organizations that are structured to assist amputees with prosthetic and economic rehabilitation worldwide.Providing prosthetic components and services from Barr United Amputee Assistance Fund (BUAAF) sponsoring prosthetists and manufacturers ,is our primary function.
We provide reciepts with our non profit federal tax ID # to those donors who request it.
We do not determine $ value to the in kind contributions. That is left up to the donor and his tax accountant.
We also acknowledge financial and component contributions ,with donor authorization,by recognition on our web site and O&P media publications. The United Amputee Services Association(UASA) is our administrative and peer visitation non profit organization located in Orlando, Florida.

You are welcome to review our list of manufacturer and practitioner Donor Club members on our web site.
In particular, view the 2nd page and click on feature story that appeared in O&P Business News, describing the recent expansion of our highly successfull domestic program titled: Barr Foundation's Mission Goes International/Where Hope Meets Help.
You will also find by link, recepients and over 60 prosthetists that have sponsored past applicants and testimonials from both.
We have successfully fitted and funded the cost for prosthetics for over 200 BUAAF recepients.
We specifically target used and new components for application in foreign countries but only if the components are fitted by qualified practitioners and follow up care is assurred. We make every attempt to inform the donors of the end use of their contribution.

Most non profits must go thru an initial three year probation period in order to establish credibility to potential donors and the IRS.
With all the hoops that one must go thru with establishing and reporting donations for a non profit organizations, consider making donations to a reputable established organization that has your purpose and intent for the contribution, as their mission.
Please contact me via telephone or e-mail if you have any questions.Thank you.
