I too am a 'fitter'(do i sense another impending debate on terminology
here?) and a (sometimes) prescriber of PROSTHESES and ORTHOSES, how ever
right my State-side friends may think they are and even if it does
appear in the American dictionary.
...oh, and by the way...
...When concidering these 'surgical appliances' the patient must first
attend the CENTRE (not center), possibly walking there using the
PAVEMENT (not sidewalk). If they happen to drive there, then perhaps
they stopped off to get some PETROL (not gas/gasoline) and to quickly
check under the Bonnet (not hood). While they were there they may have
even bought some BISCUITS and SWEETS (not cookies and candy). When
they get home they may have to use a LIFT (not elevator) to get to their
FLAT (not apartment). The COLOUR (not color) is important.....
....and i could go on. The point is this: There will always be
regional and cultural differences.
I am English so therefore i will obviously use the english
terminology/words. I know what i mean and so do my collegues. I still
don't agree that an 'orthitic' can exist, but to the Americans it
appears to be a commonly used and accepted term.
Chill out guys,
