Hello all! I have been recently asked a question from a colleague who
is located in the Pennsylvania area. He has recently been challenged
with comming -up with a functional orthosis for a flail glenohumeral
joint due to a brachial plexus injury. He says that the pt has wrist
and hand function but, partial elbow function and no true shoulder
motion. I didn't get the nerve(s) that were injured. Sounds like
C 5-6 axillary and musculotaneous nerves.
He has called Fillauer with no luck. He (a practioner) states
that the physician that he is dealing with has prescribed this before
and a German man made the particular orthosis he is wanting. The
practioner states that the system would have some sort of shoulder cap
with a conventional type cable system. Does anyone know of such a
system? Can anyone recommend anything for my friend? I will be sure
to post all replies. Thanks!!!
