Dear list,
Early March I sent an email explaining my understanding of what’s going on with the relation between us and Medicare and other health plans, how and why they deny, competitive bids and more.

I received really interesting replies, thanks for them!

We know that we still have a long way to be appreciated as we should be. Meantime this is what I found based on the responses:

1- Can we work on getting authorization for almost all codes before providing the service? Does this really helpful? If we have authorization, like what we receive from HMOs, do we minimize the chance of audits?

2- How can we work on the Doctorate program in O&P? Today most of the health care providers have a doctorate program, DPT, OTD, … If we have doctor of orthotics and prosthetics, then most of the issues would solve, I think! Patients would respect us more as a practitioner and not seller at the store, physicians would respect more as well, we would be able to charge for every office visits, and of course Medicare and other health plans won’t be able to deny claims and ask for the money back as easy as they do now. Also we can prevent selling OTS products by non-practitioners; ever heard that non-physical therapist advertise to come to home for the PT services?

Everything is about the FUTURE of O&P. Lets get together to solve the issues ASAP.
