Dear O&P Listserv,

I am a Senior O&P student at the International Institute of Orthotics and Prosthetics. The research I'm conducting for my senior project features a survey that aims to gauge the prevalence of heterotopic ossification (HO) in today's community of amputees (from the perspective of the practitioner) and gather reports of current approaches to managing painful or symptomatic HO. Experience with HO is not necessary to complete my survey! Any and all survey responses are helpful and will provide me with a general understanding of how common/uncommon HO might be. The link for the survey is here: <URL Redacted>

Heterotopic ossification (HO), in the context of prosthetic management for patients with lower-extremity amputations, is characterized by bony overgrowth that can cause increased pressure inside the prosthetic socket during weight-bearing. This survey aims to gauge the prevalence of HO in today's community of patients with amputations and gather reports of current approaches to managing painful or symptomatic HO.
