Hi!
My name is Hollie Mincone, and I am currently completing my capstone
project in my final year of the prosthetics and orthotics program at
Eastern Michigan University. I sent out a previous email but wanted to
resend the participation invitation to those who may have been busy due to
the busy holiday season!
For my capstone, I am focusing on exploring the environmental and cultural
effects on the durability of prosthetic feet in multiple resource limited
countries. My undergraduate degrees are in Biomedical Engineering and
Missions and after a summer long missions’ trip in Haiti, I realized my
desire to combine these fields. With this project, my goal is to define,
according to clinicians, the factors that most influence the longevity of
prosthetic feet in resource limited countries. With this information,
engineers will be able to perform mechanical tests on the durability of
prosthetic feet that better stimulate the conditions of resource limited
countries which will allow better provision of prostheses to these
patients.
To complete this project, I am looking to recruit current clinicians that
meet the following criteria, (1) Currently practicing as a certified
prosthetist; (2) Have been a certified prosthetist for at least four years;
(3) Have had at least one prior trip to a resource limited country that
involved providing prostheses.
If you meet the necessary criteria and choose to participate in this study,
it will consist of answering 2-3 surveys, each given about 3-4 weeks apart.
More information about the specifics of the survey is attached in the file
titled Consent Form. If you are interested in participating, please read
over the consent form and complete the preliminary survey below.
