Colleagues,

With the high incidence of specifically foot orthotics being a noncovered
benefit for patients in today’s climate, is anyone aware of and/or using a
waiver such as Medicare’s ABN waiver? Reason I ask is that in order to get
a denial on an insurance claim for foot orthotics often times we need to
fulfill the request of getting the dr’s notes to submit for the purpose of
getting the denial and go through the whole process just to get a denial
for a noncovered benefit. Let me know your thoughts on if there is waiver
that private insurers use to allow a patient to patient pay for the
orthotics in a case where it is a noncovered benefit with an insurance we
are contracted with.

Thanks in advance to any and all responses,

Keith M Smith CO LO FAAOP
