Friday, Forty-Five years ago was the effective last day for aconference that ran through Saturday. 1976 was the first prosthetic introduction ofwhat would morph into the Ischial Containment socket. However the limbs made and the checkoutpoints used at Fitzsimons as detailed in the exhibit's slideshow (“day one” posting and below) werefor the quadrilateral socket. The primaryfocus was alignment and X-ray testing, given the results, this would seem to bea more important factor than socket design.
Here is the layout of the exhibit hall.

The significance of this image is that it validates thehistory of the exhibit, coupled with oral interviews and correspondence. It is taken from the Almanac (October, 1976,Vol. 25, No. 10.), and is presented to show the importance of saving documents.
Here are the recovered statistics from Fitzsimons, theyproduced the greatest recorded adduction of any series of above knee socketsever tested and the irony is that it was on quadrilateral sockets. These are from a 13 page recovered researchpaper written by Dr. Gerald W. Mayfield, MD (ret. Colonel, Army Medical corps), which for various life reasons was never contemporaneously published. It could have changed the O&P field and directed further research.
