It REALLY depends on the skin. We had a female we had to import resin from
Germany, or she'll break down from everything else.
PTE inner socket is an industry staple. I mean, as part of the socket.
--------------
I prefer OP Tek Flex Comfort. Its silky instead of tacky and patients love
it
--------------
I am hearing good things from practitioners that make custom AK and upper
extremity silicone sockets.
The reason why these are so effective is that the volume remains closely
correlated to the anatomical volume. It does this in a dynamic way
rather than fixed. This is to say, if the limb volume of the AK limb
dynamically diminishes due to elongation, at lets say swing phase, the
elastic liner follows the volume decrease. This also means that the
residual limb does not suffer the extremes of suction that a hard socket
creates at the point where the vacuum differential is breached and the
socket is released from the limb. There is much yet to say about this as
well as why silicone is a very agreeable material against skin.
----------------
OP-TEK Flex, comfort, bi-lam, natural. I use the Comfort version. Pulls
nice and has an almost greasy slippery feel to it. Self adhesive. No cold
flow.
-----------------
Proflex without silicone.
-----------------
Acrylic resin . 1 layer of 1oz or 1/2oz prosthetic felt, against the mold
then whatever layup
you want over that.
Been working pretty good for 40 years.
------------------
... i started to make my own legs 50+ years ago...
...the newer ones that are being advertised i find are good but expensive,
and proflex which everyone complains is too tacky i would never use.
so the good news for you to try is Orfitrans. i have been using it for
years, its cheaper, available from Pel, Cascade, etc. not tacky, drapes
well, very easy to work with and available in different grades soft, med
hard, hard.etc
------------------
I previously was using Orfitrans Excel because it is soft enough for the
way I like to finish my trimlines and because it pulls uniformly. However,
recently I've been preferring Orfitrans ExtraSoft with Silicone because it
offers me the same benefits of Excel but it seems to tack better to the
skin offering a higher degree of suspension security.
------------------
To me there is no one plastic that's the best, it's a matter of flexibility
and comfort. My first legs were hard laminated sockets that worked fine.

Transfemoral - I like the Optek Flex from Curbell. Smooth inner surface,
forms around expulsion valve well, and doesn't creep as much as problem
over time
