Listers-
Was wondering how other facilities handle shoe attachment to metal orthoses.
When a patient brings an unknown shoe to you for a transfer, what is your
policy? We find that in some cases, a shoe may APPEAR sturdy, be orthopedic
or be costly, but until you actually cut into the sole, you cannot determine
the appropriateness. And once you cut, the patient cannot return them. In
other cases, an insurance will cover the transfer, but not the (opposite)
shoe and patients simply cannot afford our recommendations. We've added
reinforcements with some success and have used central fabs, but it seems
hit or miss with longevity. And then there's the question of the warranty.
How do we honor a warranty on the transfer when the patient has brought us
inappropriate shoes? Just wondering how others are handling this situation.
