Hi Listmembers,

The question arose in our office regarding criteria to determine when to
proceed with an extension prosthesis as opposed with continuing with a
sole and heel shoe lift for a child who has congenital shortening of a leg.
There comes a point where the shoe lift required is approaching 4-5 inches,
but at the risk of becoming cumbersome or turning that ankle. Is there a
criteria for how much of a lift is too much? What have you found to be an
effective strategy?

Thank you! Randy McFarland, CPO
