Esteemed List Readers,
While I know that there is no substitute for a well fit prosthetic socket there are always times of overuse or weight loss or gain where a small dab of a lubricant would ease the chaffing/rubbing until an adjustment can be made. Especially in rural/bucolic areas of the country where the practitioner is located 30, 40 or 50 miles away.
When I began my prosthetic journey (1980) a tin of 'mutton tallow' was issued with every new prosthesis for such situations. Also I have seen patients use of Bag Balm, Vaseline or Aloe.
If you recommend a product of this nature to your patients for use for chaffing what do you suggest? Prosthetic in nature of any OTS or home-grown product that works.
Many thanks.
