I have a 60 year old male patient with bouts of ant. Tib. Bursitis. He has been an amputee for about 8 months. He is in a locking liner. His first bout was post 3 months. I made the necessary accommodations in the socket and he did not have any more issues. The limb atrophied and I replaced the socket. He has been wearing the new socket for about 3 months. Now, he is beginning to experience some of the same issues. Redness, pain, edema. He is a k3 and wears his prosthesis from morning to night without issues except when he experiences the bursitis.
Questions- what can the patient do to reduce the bursitis and increase his comfort?( Management protocol for the patient) ice,etc
And
What can I do as a prosthetist? Socket recommendations? Liners? Etc. or possible surgical options?
and if anyone has any other helpful advice; it would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.
