List,
We recently received a referral for a young man who suffered an amputation
at the transpelvic level secondary to an MVA. The doctor wants a bucket
made for him so that he can sit upright in his wheelchair. Due to his level
of loss he tends to slide down and eventually out of his wheelchair since
his lack of any sitting foundation. The patient has had both acetabulum and
rami removed, but has maintained his illium. We are going to gain
purchase on the iliac crests and perhaps abdominal stability through use of
a rigid anterior panel or modified ripcord LSO.
My request to the list is to please share any experience you have in making
these buckets. Any particular interface used with success? casting
techniques? fabrication materials and techniques?
Any assistance with this case would be appreciated. I will share any
feedback I receive from the list in a summary posting here.
All the best,
