Robert C. Manfredi, Sr.
Age 79, Rumson, NJ
Robert C. Manfredi, Sr., 79, of Rumson, died Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Riverview Hospital, Red Bank.
A beloved husband, father and grandfather known for his wit, kind and easy going manner as well as his dedicated community service, Robert was born in New York and lived in the Vailsburg section of Newark before moving to Monmouth County in 1958. He also maintained a home in the Florida Keys.
Robert founded Manfredi Surgical and Orthopedics in Long Branch in 1958 and remained its owner until 2003. He served as one of several ambassadors to China representing the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association when the country was seeking to improve its medical techniques. Robert, who was known for his signature mustache, was president of the United Cerebral Palsy of Monmouth and Ocean Counties as well as a member of the Long Branch Lions Club. He also served in the US Navy Reserves. He and his wife were long time communicants of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson. Robert was a graduate of the NYU prosthetics and orthotics program and served as chairman of the NJ Board for Licensure in orthotics and prosthetics, and the American Board for Certification in orthotics and prosthetics. But he is remembered most by his family for being a doting and adoring grandfather.
He is predeceased by his parents, Albert and Dorothea Manfredi.
Surviving are his loving and dedicated wife of 58 years, Virginia; 3 loving children, Cindy and her husband David Anderson, Robert and his wife Jean Manfredi and Richard and his wife Yana Manfredi; and 5 much loved grandsons, Robert, Daniel, Nicholas, Lucas and David and 1 great-grandson, Zak.
