Hello,
Has anyone had success with the orthotic treatment of Guillain-barre syndrome? It's an auto immune attack on the nervous system which affects muscle strength, can cause tingling and numbness, as well as paralysis.
I have a patient, 26 yr old with Guillian-barre syndrome and secondary drop foot bilateral with bilateral lateral patella subluxation. Muscle testing (R, L) of the quadriceps 3-, 3, extensors of the lower leg 3-,3-, ankle dorsiflexors trace, 0. She also has ankle instability.
Due to muscle weakness the pt could not handle a KAFO and it would not address the concern of patella subluxation. I was considering a treatment plan of a custom afo with variable assist joints, a t-strap at the ankle to prevent the ankle from rolling, as well as providing off the shelf patella subluxation braces.
I would love some feed back from experienced Orthotists.
