Dear List Serve,
It's common to use the Semmes Weinstein Monofillaments when charting
areas of insensate areas of the foot for various types of orthotic
applications.
I am a senior now and I wanted to share with my peers that I also use
this test on Trans-Tibial amputees. Start doing the test yourself and
it will not be unusual for you to find areas of risk appear frequently
for diabetics or vascular patients. This explains in my humble
opinion the problems we see of red abrasions, or in some cases wounds
seen in our offices and which time we question why the patient did not
come in BEFORE the problem escalated.
I never had the time to do a paper on this common occurrence but I do
hope some individual or an institution does.
Sincerely,
Rick Feldman, cpo
