A one year postdoctoral position is available to start October 1, 2016 working with Stefania Fatone, PhD, in the Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center< <URL Redacted>> in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
We are seeking a self-motivated postdoctoral scientist to contribute to studies focused on improving the prosthesis interface for persons with lower limb amputation. Candidates with a strong mechanical/material engineering background are encouraged to apply.
This position will focus on developing and executing experimental evaluations of prosthetic sockets to evaluate material properties such as texturing on socket suspension forces as well as contributing to the development of a sensor based-system to assess conditions inside a prosthetic socket such as pressure, temperature and shear. A strong engineering background with experience in materials testing and prosthetic interface mechanics is desired. Specific responsibilities include conducting independent research, analyzing, interpreting and presenting data, and preparation of manuscripts. Experience with use of a mechanical testing system and prosthetic devices is preferred.
This position is funded by a NIDILRR Advanced Rehabilitation Research Training Grant entitled, Rehabilitation Sciences for Basic Scientists & Engineers: An Advanced Training Program, directed by Steven Gard, PhD and W. Zev Rymer, MD, PhD.
To apply, candidates should send CV including list of publications, cover letter, and names/contact information of three references to Stefania Fatone, PhD, <Email Address Redacted> <mailto:<Email Address Redacted>>
