Does Medicare allow an MD who manages the patient's diabetic condition to
sign off on foot exam preformed by an LVN?

The Medicare LCD reads...

in-person visit with a podiatrist, other M.D or D.O., physician assistant,
nurse practitioner, or *clinical nurse specialist *that is within 6 months
prior to delivery of the shoes/inserts, and that documents one of more of
criteria a – f.

I am having a hard time determining what Medicare considers a clinical
nurse specialist. And we all know calling to ask them is worthless.

I have a foot exam from an LVN and I am unsure if I am able to send it to
the MD or not.

Feedback?

Thanks for any help!
