Hello,
Has anyone had success getting *Capital BlueCross* to reimburse for
elevated vacuum? I have a 59 y.o. diabetic transtibial amputee who is
employed full-time in a large supermarket supply warehouse. He is
required to check/unpack/move pallets of canned goods, wheel cases of
food up and down ramps, and he is on his feet most of the day. He has
been using a pin-lock system and only recently has found that
fluctuations in volume have required him to stop whatever he's doing, go
upstairs to the restroom, and add or remove socks in order to remain
comfortable. This occurs a few times during his shift. His prosthetic
socket is five months old and he is one year post-op. I'd like to be
able to offer him elevated vacuum mainly to eliminate his significant
volume variability which he says is bothersome and takes away from his
break time daily. He reports that if he doesn't pay close attention to
his fit during the day, his residual limb gets so sore he is useless to
his family when he gets home. I'd like to keep him productive, healthy,
and comfortable and my first inquiry to Capital BC was met with a
negative response so before I have his doctor and PT help write letters,
I'm hoping someone(s) from the listserv has suggestions to help this
gentleman.
Thank you all in advance,
Ingrid Frank
