I'm sorry I did not personally reply to everyone, but this is much easier.
I participated in a webinar this week provided by our O&P software on Tuesday. They mentioned the GEMS crosswalk tool that is available but that it is not all-inclusive and only gives the 'unspecified' crosswalks and that we'll need to look further for sides if applicable.
They stated that the Z44 encounter codes were new and they basically were not very familiar with them as of yet. They also recommended to get the ICD-10 diagnosis straight from the physician as our claims are supposed to match what is in the physician's chart. As some have stated sometimes the physicians may not designate a diagnosis required for medical necessity for an item and in these cases we'll just have to contact those offices and discuss applicable diagnoses so that the physician can determine if one is appropriate.
