Academy Announces New Executive Director Lydia Middleton, MBA, CAE, is an association executive with more than 20 years of nonprofit management experience
WASHINGTON, DC-The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (the Academy), the leading association for orthotics and prosthetics professionals, is pleased to announce the appointment of Lydia Middleton, MBA, CAE, as its new executive director. Middleton has more than 20 years of management experience in the nonprofit healthcare industry.
Middleton served as president and CEO of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) from 2004 - 2013. She then served as a consultant providing leadership, management, and assessment services to the academic and association communities. Lydia was named by Modern Healthcare Magazine as one of the 100 most powerful people in healthcare in 2004. She is the past president of the Federation of Associations of Schools of the Health Professions and past chair of the Small Staff Association Committee of the American Society of Association Executives.
I am honored to enter such a dynamic profession. O&P professionals provide a valuable service enabling individuals in need of care to lead full and productive lives. I am eager to work with the Academy board to move the mission of the Academy forward, said Middleton.
Jason Highsmith, PT, DPT, PhD, CP, FAAOP, Academy president, believes that the Academy's future is bright. The Academy board and I are confident Lydia is the right person to lead the organization. We believe her experience in the healthcare industry and the nonprofit sector is a perfect match, and we are delighted that she has accepted the appointment.
The selection of Ms. Middleton comes after an extensive search. The Academy board was assisted in the search for a new executive director by Dan Gillick of ExecCareersdc. Middleton will join the Academy in August and can be reached after August 17 at <Email Address Redacted> or at (202) 380-3663.
