List serve,
Original question: What has your experience been with sending video with your audits? What format did you use? Was it reviewed? Did it help your audit? At what level did it help, if any?
Responses:
Hi Rick,
It is my experience that videos of our patient's does not assist in an audit until you get to the ALJ level. At the first few level of audits, Medicare's only concern are the physicians medical records. No other document, video or otherwise holds any weight. Only the physician's medical records (and perhaps physical therapy records) will help you pass an audit on the first levels. I encourage you to submit your videos - not to help pass the first level of audits, but so they can be used at the ALJ level ( which will be 2 years from your submission). Keep in mind though, not all ALJ will review videos.

Please share your responses. I have started using/saving video footage for clinical and reimbursement/audit purposes and would really appreciate the input.

Region D does not accept videos of any kind.

It's my understanding that CMS will NOT look at any video no matter how compelling.

I would be interested in your responses!

We do not send videos, but on occasion we do grab single frame photos off of video, print them in color and put include them. The couple times we have done this the decision was reversed in our favor. There is no way to say what the critical piece of information was because we also included lots of documentation. None the less, it certainly didn't hurt.
Good luck,

Would you please send me any responses that you may receive? We take videos on everyone but have not needed to use them yet
Thank you.
