Hello,

Recently UPROXX created a documentary about a young man and his work in
designing a low cost prosthesis. This documentary was picked up by the
Huffington Post and rebroadcast to a much wider audience....
<URL Redacted>

It is apparent that neither the Huffington Post nor UPROXX did any form of
fact checking on the claims that were made.

AOPA has made an official statement about inaccuracies in the media
relating to the cost of prostheses....
www.aopanet.org/2015/02/aopa-statement-on-3-d-printing-in-prosthetics-and-frequent-errant-estimates-of-the-average-cost-of-upper-and-lower-limb-custom-fabricated-prosthetic-devices/

Easton Lachappelle's company is using this documentary to raise money for
his company...
<URL Redacted>

Repeatedly Easton has claimed that he met a girl with a very simple
myoelectric arm that cost $80,000. I have used his description and applied
the medicare Lcode allowable for my region and came up with a cost of
$11,033. It is unfortunate that such a young and clearly brilliant
individual feels the need to spread false information about our field to
raise money.

I have brought this concern to the author of the article who has not
admitted her mistake. I have contacted Easton and the editor of UPROXX but
didn't receive a response.

If you have been frustrated by the false claims about our field that have
been published in the media recently. I suggest that you let the
Huffington Post know. If you scroll down the post's article you can find a
link labelled Suggest a correction.

I suggest submitting a correction and then sending an email to
<Email Address Redacted> with a CC to the author's editor:

Thank You
