The field of O&P lost an outstanding Orthotist this week. George Gent, CO, passed away on November 14, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. George attended the Century College Orthotic Technician and Practitioner programs in 1996-98. He spent his entire career in Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN, where he was employed by Tamarack Habilitation Technology, Shriner's Hospital, and for the past 12 years, Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare.
Those who had the privilege to work with George knew that he was a talented and passionate practitioner. He eagerly took on complex cases and was always more than willing to share his knowledge or lend a helping hand. Through his natural leadership, he pushed colleagues to always go the extra mile for each and every patient. George led by example and always strived for perfection with every flare, skive, stitch and bend.
George improved the lives of countless patients throughout his career, wearing a smile the entire time. He had a special ability to instantly lift everyone's spirits with his infectious laugh and famous one-liners. He mentored many young practitioners and residents who will continue to be inspired by his passion for treating children with complex lower extremity conditions. George Gent is truly irreplaceable and will be greatly missed.
