Following up from last week's email exchange on Congresswoman Ellmers' bill,
H.R. 5083, I would like to say to Sara directly that on behalf of NAAOP, I
certainly meant no offense by my response to your post. I did not intend to
be condescending and if you took it that way, I apologize. NAAOP was built,
and continues to thrive, on the support of the independent practitioner.
Some of the key provisions in the Ellmers bill, some of which were not
mentioned in your post, would significantly help these practitioners, in our
view. Other provisions of the bill (which you tended to focus on) raise
questions about the impact on small providers and suppliers. NAAOP takes
your comments seriously and will follow up with Congressional staff to
discuss these provisions further. But overall, NAAOP believes the Ellmers's
bill is in the interests of O&P practitioners and we are grateful to her for
her leadership on these issues. So, respectfully, I think we just disagree
as to the value of the bill and the overall impact it may have on the O&P
profession and the patients we serve. I would welcome a phone conversation
with you about the bill and look forward to further dialogue.
Thanks.
