The consensus was that the masters program is the only way to get certified
now. I haven't had any reason to think about the certification process for
20 years. But I now wonder how many Clinicians we are losing to death,
retirement, career change versus how many new clinicians we are getting
from the O&P schools. I remember reading an article that stated many of the
new O&P students are either going into a different career or they are not
finding jobs in O&P. I also remember reading an article which states there
are roughly 8500 O&P clinicians currently and there is a need for 12000 by
2020. With the masters program and the problems students are having finding
jobs..is this going to be an achievable goal? And did we hurt our industry
by mandating a masters program? Just a few things for you to think about.
For those of us already certified I guess it's good for us..less
competition. But for my employee who was looking to get certified..I think
he will have to skip getting certified since it is now a long drug out
process.even though he has been in the field for almost 20 years.
I would also like to thank Gerald Starks for increasing my vocabulary.
Matriculated- enrolled at a college or university.
