Hi list. I have been meaning to post this before and I believe others have touched on it but, in regards to these mail order companies doing business, how is this allowed to occur?
When visiting down south, these commercials air regularly on most channels. Often times, the toll free number was different each time it aired. One photo I took had a number of 855-535-8424 and instructions to call about getting back braces, knee braces and almost any other brace from their network of affiliated and qualified providers.
Most recently, I saw a hospital inpatient who told me the hospital ordered him an LSO, which he left at home and didn't have anyone to bring it to him, thus, my visit to him to fit an OTS LSO. After seeing the orthosis, he said he is pretty sure that is the same one his insurance company sent to him. After inquiring further, he said his insurance carrier, either car insurance or workers comp, I forget which, had an outside company call him, ask his height and weight and then sent him a brace in the mail without fitting it to him. Good stuff to occur, especially in a licensure state. Just more further annoyance and belittling what we do and provide, yet these companies continue to get paid by insurance companies and our government.
I know in the grand scheme of things, we are all competitors in business but, there is still plenty of business for everyone and many of us still have friendly and professional relationships while working for other facilities. It's situations like this that should make us band together and end the nonsense before everything is done mail order.
