And today, I received a fax from SMS, Senior Medical Supplies, requesting my help in providing a custom knee brace to reduce pain. And I quote: Through our nationally advertised television commercial, a mutual patient, John Doe, has contacted our company, Senior Medial Supplies, and was excited to order a Knee Brace L1833 to help alleviate knee pain.
This long term amputee patient gave them my name and fax number thinking I was the physician. Otherwise I'd never have seen it.
These are the people who advertise on television for knee braces and back braces and all you have to do is call in to see if you qualify for a free brace. And WE are getting audited? Medicare is paying these crooks for soliciting patients over TV and we are getting audited for providing quality o and p care. They go on to tell the physician: IMPORTANT: If the patient qualifies for the brace based on your assessment, please be sure to document the associated condition and request for this knee brace in the patient's medical record. The Rx is easy, it's marked steps 1 through 5 with dignosis, type of brace ordered, signature, date and Important: per medicare guidelines and requirements, please return with a copy of the patient's medical records associated with the requested product.
What a scam. And we are getting audited!

Guys,
Let me clarify. The difference is in the details. If this proposal is approved, Physicians, therapists, remain certified their fitters will no longer have exemption to do customs under them. Neither will Manufacturer reps.
It is so difficult to bring good news to this industry. Every manufacturer is fighting this if they do billing programs! As a licensed Orthotist, I thought we as Orthotist may want to comment too! The responses have been boarder line smart elick like I'm the bad guy. Just go back to sleep. I will wake you when it's over. This is in a comment period right now through CMS under this link:
