Pennsylvania Orthotic and Prosthetic Society Announces Licensing Extension
*Contact:* Eileen Levis, President, Pennsylvania Orthotic and Prosthetic
Society (POPS), Phone: (215) 244-4100, Email: <Email Address Redacted>
*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Today the Pennsylvania Orthotic and Prosthetic Society
(POPS) announced the passage of HB2242 which amends the Medical Practice
Act related to Orthotic, Prosthetic and Pedorthic licensing. This bill
extends the licensing period until March 31, 2015.
Eileen Levis, President of POPS, issued the following statement:
“We needed to address flaws in ACT 90 (the original licensing bill) in
order to properly qualify and license Prosthetists, Orthotists, Pedorthists
and Orthotic Fitters in the Commonwealth. One significant problem was the
complexities encountered by the Medical Board in processing applications.
Time was running out and only 150 of 500 applicants would have received a
license by the deadline. HB2242 gave us a vehicle by which to amend the
existing law and make sure all certified practitioners were able to
continue to practice.
“We worked very hard with legislators to get HB2242 passed as quickly as we
did. We are especially grateful to BOC (Board of
Certification/Accreditation) for their support, Representatives Toohil and
Baker and Senators Tomlinson and Boscola. We averted the possible loss of
jobs and interruption of patient care. POPS along with BOC will continue to
work with the Medical Board as the Regulations are drafted.”
