This is a first for me: my office received a pre-payment audit a few weeks ago, and the documentation was submitted right away. Just yesterday, I received a POST-payment audit for the same claim. When I called to inquire about why I received 2 audits for the same claim that hasn’t even been paid (I assumed it was a mistake), I was told that it was a “random” audit and I needed to comply. So I have a pre-payment audit and a post-payment audit going on at the same time, for the same claim. It is unclear how they can administer a post-payment audit on a claim that has not been paid and the decision for the pre-payment audit has not been made. However, please be aware of this and if you receive 2 documentation requests for the same claim, do not ignore one of them; it is a real request. Just thought I would pass this along.
