Below is the question posed followed by a few of the best responses. Thanks to everyone who responded. Oh and if anyone can suggest where I can get the New York University Upper Extremity Manual could you let me know?
Hi
For some time now I have been looking for an upper limb Prosthetics
textbook/manual to use as a reference in our department.
I need something which would give both basic information to new
practitioners as well as more fine detail stuff for the 'Old hands'
(pardon the pun).
In particular it would be great to have detailed diagrams of a variety
of harnessing systems, socket shapes and limb builds.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Are you able to look at the UCLA text by Sanchi?

Hi Marjorie,
There’s a couple of good places to get some of the body powered reference
stuff. You can get the UCLA manual from the O&P virtual library:
<URL Redacted>
There’s also the NYU manuals (Upper Limb Prosthetics, and Upper Limb
Prosthetics: Supplement, 1982) that you should be able to obtain from
various O&P schools.
Last but not least, there’s a couple of journal articles published in the
1950’s were they illustrate harnessing. Fortunately the techniques are
still very relevant to the equipment we use today:
Artificial Limbs, 1955, 2(3):1-69 (harnessing)
Artificial Limbs, 1955, 2(2):1-108 (general upper extremity prosthetics)
Hope it helps!

See if you can find a New York University Upper Extremity Manual. it is
out of print but it is the best book I have found for old and new hands
for upper extremity. There is really good basic information in this book
