I was hoping someone might be able to advise me on a rather interesting
partial hand patient of mine. As I hope you can see from the picture,
the only digit remaining is the little finger. It does serve some
function in grasping some small objects but without much grip.
This individual is interested in achieving a better level of function by
using a prosthesis or device. In particular he would like to be able to
grip more efficiently with the use of prosthetic fingers. We have
discussed opposition posts, silicone hands and even myo-electric fingers
(though I admittedly do not have much experience in fitting these)
I would be very interested to hear from practitioners who have seen
patients with a similar amputation and how they dealt with this
challenging level of amputation. Thanks!
