Jon

I am writing to you in response to your list serve posting. Google OIG
advisory opinion no. 06-02.

It is against the law to loan a technician to a physician or referral
source in exchange for the business. This report will explain more in
detail. If you can not find it let me know and I will face you the OIG
opinion.

Don't know the details of their program so he may have found a loophole.

Breg, Don Joy, Aspen are just a few that I know compete and market to my
referral sources in Michigan. All we can do is to not use them. I have gone
so far as to call the Dr. and ask to use same or similar when a device is
asked for by name.

Have you not heard of OSSUR and OTTO BOCK. They both have legions of
fitters who are company employees competing against you for most OTS
orthotics. This is not to single them out, there are many other
manufacturors who either sell direct to dr/pt/workmen's comp or use a
different brand of same product. Some like Cascade Ortho and Bioness market
almost exclusively to others but begrudeonly sell to us also.

Are you certain OHI is not a Hanger subsidiary?

Do you live in a region where there are licensed states? Some license states
prohibit this type activity. Also, was there any indication who would bill
the patient, OHI or doc?

Otto bock

Don joy

Deroyal

Breg

?

I was reading and it stated they would send license ped to measure and fit.
I don't think they are suppose to do anything above the ankle....am I right?

Did I read that correct that they will send a pedorthotist to measure and
fit AFO's?

This is very a very disturbing development for OHI. I worked for Langer for
12 years and they were always a very friendly lab to the O&P community. I'm
very sorry to see that this has changed. I wonder if it is within the scope
of practice for a CPed to cast and dispense AFO's? I know this has always
been a grey area within our profession but being a Pedorthist myself I have
always thought that it is not.

They should not be seeing anything
