Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Keen’s looks like a reasonable
option, but his problems are such that for now we opted to go with custom
shoes from American. Following is the original question and a condensed
version of the suggestions:
Aside from the obvious, custom shoes, I have a Downs patient with
troublesome feet. Width at the mets 4 1/8, width at the heel 1 1/2 and
foot length 8 1/4. I am looking for NON custom shoe suggestions.
The list of suggestions:
Apis shoes (also called Mt. Emey) have several types to accommodate large
feet.
Markel, Apex, Keen, New Balance, Dr. Comfort, PW Minor, Glycerin 11 from
Brook, Hickies shoe closure, Van’s or DC skateboard type shoes, Asics GT
2000, Aetrix Edge Runner,
There were modification suggestions of sticky back felt and various other
padding materials.
Another suggestion was to google, “heel lock lacing”
