As O&P professionals all of us benefit from the growth in
the profession that was built by those that came before us.
It is my belief that each of us has the responsibility to
do what we can to return the favor by improving the
profession for those who follow us. One of the simplest
ways to do this is to give financial support to the schools
who are teaching the next generation of O&P professionals.
Remember all the times your school wasn't able to offer
something that you thought was needed because they lacked
the funds to do so? This is an experience common to all the
educational programs in our field and it doesn't need to be
that way. Why do you suppose that the business, medical,
and law schools all seem to be well funded? It is largely
because they are well supported by their alumni. We in O&P
certainly have the ability to do the same thing. It doesn't
take a large donation, just participation by the broad
membership of the profession. Many of you have lost the
school that trained you due to inadequate funding and thus
cannot support the program you attended. I ask that you
adopt one of the new programs that lacks a significant
population of mature alumni. The the new programs need
financial help just as much as the established ones, they
may well need it even more.

I have made this a habit for many years now and know it is
important to the experience of the new generation of
students entering the field. My school, the University of
Washington, makes giving easy, just follow the link below
and select the Prosthetics and Orthotics Education and
Training Fund
