Happy Holidays O&P Community!
We here at 2ft Prosthetics have teamed up with the hospital in Chuuk,
Micronesia to establish the first prosthetics program of this country. Due
to the high number of incidents of diabetes among the Pacific Islanders,
below- and above-the-knee amputations are common in Micronesia. Currently
a lucky few of the amputees are able to go Hawaii or Australia to obtain a
prosthesis, but most go untreated.
Our goal at 2ft Prosthetics is to unite volunteer U.S. prosthetists with
the Micronesian medical staff to establish a prosthetics program in Chuuk,
Micronesia to treat the local population. This is not a simple task, but
it is feasible with the proper equipment, supplies, volunteers, and
training.
It is for this reason that we are reaching out to you, the O&P community,
during this holiday season to seek your help. We are looking for the
following equipment and supplies, and would gladly accept any used items
that are in good, functional condition.
- Vacuum pump
- Air compressor
- Air compressor hose
- Large oven (pizza oven)
- Band saw
- Pipe cutter
- Drill with cord
- Belt sander
- Cone sander / arbor
- Heat gun
- Bench vise
- Oscillating electric saw (cast saw)
- Dremel tool
- Cotton batting
- PVA bags for fiberglass
- Teflon PTFE sheet
- Nylon stockinette
- Plaster bandaging
- Residual limb socks
- Prosthetic feet and components
- Other useful tools, equipment, and supplies
(Note that Micronesia has 120V electricity with standard US sockets.)
All large equipment donated will have a small recognition plaque attached
with the name of the donating organization unless otherwise advised.
Monetary donations for equipment, supplies, and training are also
appreciated. As 2ft Prosthetics is a 501(c)3 non-profit, tax write-offs
are available for all donations.
Prosthetists, clinics, or organizations are invited to contact us if you
are interested in volunteering, adopting the Micronesia program, or
providing long-term technical support.
