I'm not sure if this will affect you, but I will throw it out there. In years past we received denials because a same or similar item was billed to close together. The problem was that we called and asked CGS if the patient ever received a L1906LT. They said no. We billed the claim only to have it deny. When we called to ask about the denial we were told the patient had received a L1902LT.
This started me using spans of codes to check same or similar. We would then call and ask them to check L1900-L1990. This worked for several years. We were told the other day that they will no longer span codes. I know MyCGS is coming online but I have not found how to search same or similar on there yet. Does this apply to you? I called CGS and they confirmed that they will no longer span. Their suggestion is to call multiple times to check individual codes. This is sure to increase denials! I am still asking how they deem this to be efficient or reasonable.
