Dear List
I had a call from the fracture clinic yesterday and they will require an EWHOFinger splint to be made for a small boy. Don't yet have any details on why this is required at the moment. All I know is that they want a waterproof splint to be made right then and there while the kid is under anaesthesia, which will keep the elbow at 90 degrees and the fingers and thumb in extension. What I thought of is low temperature thermoplastic, to mould it directly on the arm. However I am a bit concerned as I haven't done such an extensive splint with this material and the time is limited to form the plastic on fingers thumb and rest of arm. I thought of doing it in two parts and connect them with external joints but the kid is also autistic and there is an injury possibility. So they want it light, waterproof, to be able to take it off easily, and injury-proof. Any tips and ideas will be much appreciated!
