Thanks to all who responded - it never ceases to amaze me how much helpful advice I receive whenever I post! Thanks to all and Thanks to Paul!
The most popular response was to use the Allard Combo Carbon
Fibre KAFO – 7 people suggested this
The KO option most suggested was the Trulife hinged Swedish
knee cage – 5 suggestions.
I have listed below all the suggestions – I have not decided
which to try, at this point we are looking for Bioness funding, if that fails
then we will try one of the traditional orthotic options.
Regarding the Bioness
funding application one person had the following suggestion:
“ If you are writing
a letter for authorization you might want to mention that the Bioness 300
is cheaper than a motorized power chair if your patient loses her
independent physical activity”
Summary of responses –
Knee Orthosis –
- Swedish knee cage from Trulife – 5- DJ Playmaker – 1- DeRoyal makes a hyper control orthotics that is lightweight - 2 - Allard has the Check KO that is nice – 3- DonJoy OA Nano -1One person suggested 2 options:
“The best KO to
control hyperextension is the Trulife hinged Swedish knee cage. If that is too
heavy, I like the Deroyal Hyper X knee brace. It is light weight but not as
effective. I have used it with an AFO as well.”
KAFO option –
- toe off combo from allard – 7
- Allard blue rocker AFO with customizable thigh section works real well- Spinal Solutions fabricates a carbon fiber KAFO that is lightweight - 1- Custom in-house design: Uni lateral bar Kafo. Lateral upright. Mold plastic around lateral bars so you can use lighter weight aluminum bars. Then go into a pls style trim line on the afo with lateral strut then sulcus length on foot plate - 1
AFO only –
- fillauer dynamic walk AFO or the allard toe off. You can put a thigh cuff on the allard toe off. –1
-
I
use either a solid ankle AFO or hinged AFO with plantar stop
