Hello to all.
We have three new patients for whom we are trying to establish a pathway of care. My side, of course, involves prosthetic prescription and recommendation! I would gratefully accept your help.
First case:
We have a 45-year old hemipelvectomy amputee (accident occurred in the 90s) who has been fit before but did not like the joint(s) he was using. He was originally fit with the Graphlite Hip joint and knee with a single axis foot. He has not ever seen the Littig strut or the 7E7 and he was intrigued by the carbon fibre strut. He felt that in the past he had a hard time advancing his limb and he is looking for some shock absorption. So, to me, the strut has the potential to help in this area. He also thought that the foot he was using was too light, because when he took his shoe off he had a harder time knowing/feeling that his foot had swung forward sufficiently. I was thinking a torsion adapter might help to act more like a pendulum in swing, as well as provide some torsion capability. Thoughts on the Littig vs 7E7 vs Graphlite hip? Thoughts on torsion?
Second/Third case:
We have a mid 70's otherwise healthy lady (cause of amp: osteosaroma) and a mid 40's lady (cause of amp: bacterial infection) who have suffered very high transfemoral amputations. They each have about 3-4 of femur and soft tissue. What have been your recommendations for socket design and suspension. I believe the surgeons left the remnant femur thinking it would improve sitting balance.
I am looking forward to hearing about your similar experiences. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.
