Hello All

Like many of those following and / or experiencing the current audit -
denial takeback frenzy in prosthetics and orthotics, I find myself with a
mix of reactions. I am outraged. I am sad. I agree with the need to curb
fraud and abuse, including within o and p. I feel mostly powerless. I am
embarrassed and frightened on behalf of the field. I am angry that it is
simple to infer from current Medicare language that our clinical opinions
are, by definition, BIASED because we have a “financial interest in the
claim outcome”. Using this logic, no healthcare claim should be paid based
on the opinion of anyone who knows anything about the service provided. The
last people you want to ask are the experts.

On a related note, have a look at some authentic fraud (definition of an
oxymoron). Try pasting this OIG site into your browser, then under Topics,
select Criminal and Civil Enforcement.

Or for an all star lineup of people who apparently got away with health
care fraud:

Wow. What a world we live in
