Hi List,

I have come across 18Yr/M. c/o Arthrogryposis. He is currently wearing
cylindrical one piece plastic moulded kafo with knee caps for ambulation.
He has got knee rom 70-150 i.e.Arch of knee moment is from 70 degree
flexion till 150 degree extension.

He was born with vertical talus and has undergone foot surgery and now his
ankle -foot is fixed in 15degree planter flexion.

He is managing to walk with the current orthosis but wants to get freedom
of flexing his knees because it is very hard for him to sit in long flights
with his legs in straight position.

He has already tried Ottobock KAFO but he had lots of problems with wear
and tear in the knee joints,I am not sure which knee joints were used?
He is looking forward to get Osteotomy done but that is his last resort.

He walks with very wide base almost 1.5-2 mtrs distance between his feet.I
am not sure about his hips, if he has any dislocation or not?

I would like to know if anyone has any success with such cases and what
will be the preferred choice of Orthotic knee joint.

please share your experience good or bad. it will be of great help to
decide what will be the best option for knee joint and for ankle foot
segment while making Kafo's.

Thanks in advance and i will post the responses anonymously

Regards.
