I have just received a request for a RAC audit stating that the patient was not eligible at the time of service because she was a non citizen of the US. Before providing the prosthesis I received the patients insurance card and DL # which we took a copy of the card and ran the card through Medicare's web sight and it came up that she was eligible for the time of service, so we provided the prosthesis and after 2 years 364 days I received the RAC audit for the above motioned. I contacted the supplier, they explained to me that I as of APRIL 1 2013 I as a  provider should start profiling the patients and ask for proof in birth in the USA I was instructed to contact the patient and have her contact SSA to clear up her residency and if she does not the moneys will be recouped.
I just want to inform every one AS OF APRIL 1 2013 OIG PASSED A NEW RULING THAT THEY CAN RECOUP THE MONEYS FROM ALL SUPPLIERS FOR THIS MATTER.
I AM WONDERING HOW TO PROCEED WITH THIS ONE. I AM THINKING THAT I NOW NEED TO HAVE TO ASK FOR A BIRTH CERT BEFORE I PROVIDE A PROSTHESIS. YOUR INPUT WOULD BE HELPFULL...

Thank you
